MMAA has a wealth of training manuals for the die casting industry and for casting designers. These are written in an easy-to-understand way with many examples, yet are soundly based in proven technology.
At present, there are 11 manuals available. These cover
The Die Casting Machine - Hot and cold chamber
Runners and Gating - How to design a runner that minimises porosity and maximises quality
Thermal Design - Designing a die to minimise shrinkage porosity and maximise production rate
Die Spray and Lubricants - Defines how much die spray is needed and the optimum way to use tip lube and die spray.
Tooling, Materials and Heat Treatment - Maximising the die life.
Vents, Vacuum and Overflows - Where you should place vents and overflows, and how big to make them.
Defects, Instrumentation and Troubleshooting - How to quickly solve your casting problems.
Hot Chamber Machine - Controlling the process and maximising production
Examples of Design - Practical, worked-through examples of designing the runner and gating, setting up the machine
Molten Metal Safety - The right way to approach molten metals.
The new Manual is the Designing for Optimum Parts - This manual covers the various design requirements for die casting aluminium, zinc and magnesium, recommends the tolerances that can be expected and recommends draft angles. It also has some data on the mechanical performance of the most used die casting alloys.
COST: US$60 each or US$400 for a box set of 10.
